Well, that turned out differently

I’m the nostalgic type. Design and internet history are more interesting to me than whatever’s probably trending right now. Projects like the Internet History Podcast are awesome, but they don’t match the experience of running into something that has been frozen in time on your own.

I don’t remember how I found the Speak Up archives, but apparently, it was a very popular website among graphic designers in the early aughts. That was high school for me, when I was getting into the web community and had no knowledge of the design industry at the time, or what it thought about the web. They did not mix well, as reading through the comments in those archives suggest. It is almost as though the design community was waiting for the web to blow over. That it now basically depends on the web to pay the rent these days is one of bigger ironies I’ve seen…
