I read a lot on leave because feeding a baby is time-consuming work. The stacks of magazines I never got to was taken care of. I read through my cookbooks. I even checked out fiction from the library!
Reading The Fifth Trimester by Lauren Smith Brody as a way to prepare for going back to work. I heard about the book but thought it was going to be another lean-in type of thing, but I’m glad I read it. I wish I had read this book sooner, or or even before going on leave.
Reading Never Let Me Go, by Kazuo Ishiguro. With a newborn. I had wanted to read this book after hearing that it had won the Nobel Peace Prize, to see what was the big deal–and I wish I hadn’t.
What was I thinking, reading a book about child human clones grown for organ harvesting? And after doing so, knowing how terrible a decision I had made, I still chose to watch the film.
